Welcome to G-Bol, the German Consortium for the Barcode of Life!

What's G-BOL?
In 2008 German researchers using the innovative modern techniques and tools of DNA barcoding gathered to form a national group with the following aims:
- improving coordination and contact between institutes, working groups and researchers
- offering a platform for information, organizing and streamlining new initiatives
- facilitate interaction from international initiatives (iBOL, ECBOL) to national partners
- participation in iBOL as central node, together with the national groups of other European countries
- lobbying in national funding institutions for recognizing
the outstanding perspectives of this new discipline, as already done at
EU level (DNA barcoding was chosen as one of 5 promising-for-future
disciplines in the EuroBioForum 2008)
G-BOL was initiated by the German group
of institutes involved in the DNA-Bank project, i.e. including ZSM Munich
(G Haszprunar), ZFMK Bonn
(W Wägele), and Botanical
Garden Berlin-Dahlem (B Gemeinholzer) as a core group.
